We will soon know Superbowl teams
January 15, 2009
Well, we’re just a few days away from knowing what teams are headed to the 2009 Superbowl, and even now, we’re still having a hard time deciding what teams are going to make it. The NFL Championship Weekend coming up is going to be one of the wildest in quite some time, and to tell you the truth any team could make it to the Superbowl.
In the NFC, the Philadelphia Eagles and the Arizona Cardinals are going at it in a match that might be the hardest NFC Championship match-up to pick in a long time. At first look, you would think the Eagles would have to be favorites. They beat the defending champion Giants pretty easily in New Jersey, no easy feat. They also were able to beat the Vikings on the road. They have a team that has made it deep into the playoffs for the majority of the past 10 years. The players are experienced, and coach Andy Reid also has plenty of playoff experience. Donovan Mcnabb and Brian Westbrook are two of the most talented players out there, so there is a lot pointing at an Eagles Superbowl appearance.
But then you have the Arizona Cardinals, a team that insiders have been picking against all year. When they destroyed the Falcons at home, most just chocked it up to rookie QB Matt Ryan. Well, Atlanta was a very good team that had a lot of people piking them to win. Nobody gave the Cardinals a shot in heck to beat the Panthers. “The Panthers D is too good,” they said. Well it ended up being the opposite, as the Cards held the Panthers to just 13 points, while the Cardinals racked up an incredible 33 points, 10 points more than Baltimore and Tennessee racked up combined. The Cardinals’ Weak conference certainly deserves plenty of criticism, but I think people are putting to much stock in that as far as reasons why the Cards can’t play.
Its a tough pick, but SuperBowlPackages.org is taking the Cardinals. Yes, the Eagles look good, but after all the loosing the Cards have faced their entire history, its about time they were rewarded. There is also a bit of karmic dust going around as far as sports championships this year. Think about it. The Giants upset the Pats in last year’s Super Bowl, the Celtics went from the NBA’s worst to NBA Champs, Kansas upset Memphis in the March Madness Tournament, Manny Pacquiao knocked out Oscar De La Hoya. There are even some soccer teams that have been turning their franchises around, including Hull, which was not even in the league last year and is hanging tough in the English Premier League and FC Zenit St. Petersburg upset Manchester United in the 2008 UEFA Super Cup. And lets not forget the Tampa Bay freakin’ Rays and Philadelphia Phillies were in the World Series! There is just something in the air this year, and I think the Cards are in a great position to be another turn-around franchise. On the other hand, the Eagles have also seen some heartbreak as of late, and it would be fitting for Philadelp0hia, so famous for losing, would have two world champions in less than five months. Its hard to know who the football gods will shine on, but were going against the smartmoney and picking the Cards.
And in the AFC, well if you though the NFC game was hard to pick, then this is downright impossible. The Baltimore Ravens and the Pittsburgh Steelers are almost the same team, so choosing which one wins is as hard as the ground at Heins Field in the bitter Pittsburgh cold. On the surface, youd have to pick the experience of Ben Rothlesberger over rookie Joe Flacco. But, Big Ben has bee a bit suspect this year while Flacco has been electric. Once again, were going with the underdog and picking the Ravens to take this game, setting up an unthinkable matchup of a Ravens Cardinals Superbowl.
No matter who wins, the Super bowl is going to be one of the biggest events in a long time. The uncertainty is a nice change from last year, when the New England Patriots were a lock to make the Superbowl from preseason on. If you’re team gets into the game, be sure to get your SuperBowl package and save with a bundled pack.
